If you are looking to buy or sell, or are in the process of buying or selling property in Queensland, it is important that you understand how the Christmas holiday period affects contract dates.
The following is a list of key factors that may impact the progress of your conveyance:
Contracts Dates, Special Conditions and Deadlines
Under the standard REIQ contracts, the last business day for 2024 is Tuesday 24 December 2024, and the first business day of 2025 is Thursday 2January 2025.
Any conditions of your Contract that are due within this ‘Christmas closure period’ will automatically default to the 2 January 2025.
This does not apply to contracts that are not REIQ contracts (i.e. off the plan, put and call option deeds etc)
The cooling-off period is not impacted by the Christmas closure period. If you sign a contract between the 27th December 2024 and the 31st December 2024, the public holidays are not considered and the statutory 5 days will begin counting.
Law Firm and Real Estate Agency closures
You may have noticed law firms and agents giving notice of their holiday dates.
